McDonald’s removed the McPizza form its menu.
Despite being one of the best pizza money can get, the logistical issues created by 11 minutes wait time eventually led McDonald’s (which was more interested to be known for its fast service rather than the quality of its food) to remove the item from its menu.
But wait, I have some good news for all McPizza afficionados :
As of January 2015, only two McDonald’s located in the US still offer pizza and in both family size and personal size: Pomeroy, Ohio and Spencer, West Virginia.

Meanwhile, Little Caesars changed its recipe and is now printing money with Hot & Ready.
Seriously, I’m sort of a pizza snob and I’m always down for a $5 pizza. Or $8 for the pretzel crust when its available. A week worth of sodium and fat? Sign me up.

Oppo’s mission, should they chose to accept it: travel to surviving McDonald’s pizza locations, purchase, consume, and report findings back to OPPO.

I don't even remember this. Was it a regional thing?

I didn’t know that was even a thing, and I still remember the $0.10 hamburgers.

Those Hot and Ready pizzas hit the spot on a cold night. Especially if it’s straight out of the oven, fuckin mmmmmmmmmmm!

I don’t think our local ones ever had pizza, but they did have the worst tacos ever created in the late 80s.

A global thing.
They even commissioned Hobart (I thin) to engineer so kind of crazy ass 2000F oven to cook pizza quickly

Or as I call it, the Grease Sponge Pizza.
Yeah, I’m still down.

I just had the best-worst idea. You know the McRushmore? McRib, McChicken, Filet-o-fish, and Quarter Pounder all one the same bun? What if we added that to a McPizza? I’m thinking of calling it the McPentagram - the unholy union of all food that is fast, cheap, and terrible.

Yep, those ovens were really expensive, and after they got done making franchisees buy and install them, they dropped pizza from the menu.

If I rememeber correctly.....McDonald’s pizza was really good. Am I wrong here?

I love the hot and ready, those deep dish ones rock! I couldn’t stand the pretzel crust one but loved the bacon crust one.

I was thinking I would substitute the Quarter-Pounder for a Double Quarter Pounder, then I can arrange the 5 meats around the perimeter of the pizza and connect them with strips of peppers and onions to form an actual pentagram.

You are correct, it was awesome

I don’t think ever franchise got one, though. Where I grew up, there were probably 5 McDonalds in a 10 mile radius, and I can only remember 2 having the McPizza.

I don’t remember this as well. I wonder if any Albuquerque ones got it. I would have been all over it.

They were about $50,000 a piece though, the rest of the franchisees were lucky the company pulled the plug when they did. Another year or two and almost everyone would have had one.

According to the McDonalds Wikia, the pizza tests started in 1989 and by 1991 they had 500 restaurants with pizza on the menu, when they placed the program on hold.

Hot n Ready is an awesome deal. It's unfortunate that I live in a city where all the Little Caesar's have been changed over to some other chain which is okay, but I enjoyed Little Caesar's while it was around.

I'm convinced it was not available here in the Northeast. I have never seen this, ever. And If it's even remotely related to Pizza, I think I would have tried it.

I actually took a look to see how long a drive would take - both places would take around 11 hours on a non-stop drive, not to mention a border crossing.
I've never had McDonald's pizza - I remember seeing them when I was really, really young but even then it didn't seem like it was around very long.

They just opened a Little Caesars location about 3 minutes away from my house. Hard to beat a $5 pizza.
That being said, I liked their old pizza better. The ones that always came two per order, in that weird paper wrapper.

Hmm, maybe that expensive oven is why not every McDs had it? Maybe it was widespread but spotty? Still, I don’t remember ads at all, and I used to eat at McD several times a week back then.

They still have pizza at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum’s McDonnalds. It is pretty good. Kind of reminds me of Shakey’s pizza.

So would I. I was in Michigan at the time and I used to eat there a lot in grad school, but I don’t remember it.

Is it the same McPizza’s or they are selling a 3rd party Pizza ?

After a further deep dive (Wikipedia), it appears it is a third party. I assumed Don atos was some kind of clever naming with Mc Don alds.

McDonalds did NOT offer the best pizza you can get.
Very VERY far from it.
And I say that as someone who tried it and has had genuinely great pizza from other pizza places.

I had no idea McDonald’s ever made pizza. Bizzare. Now I wish I had tried it.
